The Oaks at Ojai is an all-inclusive destination spa that provides a peaceful, healthy fitness retreat that is not only great for the body, but settles the mind and soul as well. When they invited myself and a companion to the spa, I jumped at the chance and I brought along my sister to indulge. It’s been years since my sister and I had the chance to catch up alone, without husbands and children. Bliss people. It was pure bliss.

Arrival:

It was a lovely 82 degrees in Ojai. Not a cloud in the sky; wonderful weather for a weekend of wellness, hiking and checking out the town of Ojai. Check in was made easy and personalized. I arrived a bit early, so I didn’t expect for my room to be ready, but it was! The young man at the front desk explained in detail where everything was located, when the welcome reception was, as well as dinner. He handed me my keys and I was ready to explore! My sister Stephanie would be a few hours yet, so I made my way around the grounds checking out the lovely lobby, spa area, fitness center and past the pool to my casita.

The Casita:

Tall lush oaks surround each of the buildings with a Mediterranean feel throughout. Loquat trees, succulents, figs, lemons, oranges and more adorned each turn throughout the property. It was nice to see the resort using sustainable, drought tolerant landscaping. Upon entrance to the casita, I felt like I was so far away from home, stepping into a Spanish getaway, but really it was just a short 3 hour drive from San Diego, 2 from Los Angeles. Close enough for a quick weekend getaway, but far away enough to leave the hustle of everyday life behind. The gorgeous Spanish tile was delightful, the gorgeous wood doors and beams were beautiful– a nice touch. Not pretentious, but beautiful and classic.

In our room was two big queen beds, tv, two walk in closets perfect for longer stays, a huge beautiful bathroom complete with whirlpool tub and tiled shower. To the left of the casita was a cozy patio with two chaise lounge chairs and water feature. The water had been turned off due to the drought, but it was easily turned on if we chose.

Food:

The Oaks at Ojai is an all inclusive resort, meaning that all fitness classes and the meals are included with the room price. I found it to be a great value if you are in need of a recharge both mentally and physically. The food was delicious. Prepared by their experienced chefs, the Spa Cuisine is a delicious offering. The Oaks provides a well-rounded, calorie conscious, food plan that consists of three meals, snacks and beverages. The varied menu features natural foods, fresh fish and poultry, locally-grown fruits and vegetables, homemade salad dressings and soups – all without a touch of additional salt or refined sugar. Many meals feature freshly-grown herbs from their gardens. For dinner on our first night was had a fabulous fresh salad with oranges and avocado. Followed by a colorful and spicy grilled shrimp and quinoa pesto pasta. Being Italian, I love my pasta and thought this was delicious. Could it have used salt? Yes, but I am a salt addict, but I mixed it with the beautiful vegetables and shrimp and did not miss it. Next was dessert. I was thinking a fruit or something not satisfying. I was eyeing the fro-yo shop down the street if the evenings dessert offering wasn’t up to par, but I was simply amazed! They served us a chocolate mousse with raspberries. The mousse was creamy and so chocolaty, indulgent! How did they make it so delicious you ask? Tofu. Yes, tofu. It was inspiring to see the recipes they serve guests. Taking high calorie meals and making them healthful and light is no easy task, but they did it fabulously! The next morning we had a nice spread of continental favorites. A carrot muffin, oatmeal, boiled egg, coffee, fruit, green tea. Nice breakfast options, but in my opinion could have been a little bit heavier on the protein. Scrambled eggs/whites or an omelet would be a nice alternative.

The Spa:

As part of our stay, we were treated to a fabulous Fit & Firm VitAD Fortified Lifting Facial w/AHA. I have noticed that my skin lately has a had a rough feel to it and needed a bit of a refreshing…. I am getting old. But this facial kicked it into high gear and left it clean, smooth and refreshed. It was a rather long facial at 75 minutes, but every minute was delightful and relaxing. Ahhh no kids.

Ojai:

The town of Ojai is located in the mountains east of Ventura. When you are a guest of The Oaks at Ojai, you are right in the middle of town within walking distance to shopping, the awesome farmer’s market that happens every Sunday morning, hiking trails, parks and more! The climate is a bit arid, and hotter than the coastal communities, perfect for grape growing! Make sure to check out the various tasting rooms throughout Ojai.
