Carne Asada and Kicked Up Special Bacon Beans with HERDEZ® Salsa Verde!

Summer is quickly coming to a close, but don’t fret HERDEZ® Salsa has you covered when it comes to backyard entertaining friends and family throughout the year! With football season coming up, these are the perfect recipes to kick off the season right!

My favorite recipes are Carne Asada, because Beef. It’s What’s For Dinner— and my Kicked Up Special Bacon Beans recipe! Serve them both up with fresh corn tortillas, creamy guacamole, slices of lime, grilled green onions, and HERDEZ® Salsa Verde. All of HERDEZ® Salsas are fresh and delicious, centered around authentic flavors. The addition of HERDEZ® Salsa brings HUGE flavor when used in recipes.– I LOVE IT! I purchased my HERDEZ® Salsa and carne asada steak from Walmart; super convenient-  a big time saver!


Carne Asada combines the saltiness of soy sauce (I know what you are thinking… soy? Trust me), the tanginess of fresh lime juice, along with HERDEZ® Salsa Verde, and spices to make a marinade for the think steak. The marinade works quick because of all the BIG flavors, so you can let it sit for a few hours up to overnight.

  • 1-2 pounds of carne asada steak. If your grocery store does not show “carne asada,” thin steak, flap steak, skirt steak or hanger steak– all will be great for this!
  • 1 cup of HERDEZ® Salsa Verde. You can go with more or less depending on your family’s heat level preference.
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 5-10 shakes of your favorite spicy hot sauce
  • 1 T garlic powder
  • 1 T cumin
  • 1 T green chili powder
  • 1 T salt

Combine all in a big bag with the steak. Massage it in and let rest up to overnight in the refrigerator. Once marinated, bring out the beef and let rest to a warmer temperature before grilling. Turn on your grill– HOT! You want to cook up the steak fast, getting a little char– it brings the flavor! You can wrap your tortillas in foil and cook them up on the grill as well, along with yummy grilled green onions too!








Turn the steak once or twice, then cut up into nice bite sized pieces. The more you cut it, I find the further it goes!

Kicked Up Special Bacon Beans is a family favorite. I received the recipe from a cousin of mine down who knows her food (thanks Cousin Donna)! The recipe takes pinto beans from the can, a little onion, BACON, season salt, and HERDEZ® Salsa Verde to finish it off and bring a bit of tartness. So yum– I promise!

  • Two large cans of pinto beans, one drained and one with liquid
  • 1/2 white/yellow onion, diced
  • 1 pound of bacon cooked up and diced
  • Season Salt
  • 1/2 cup HERDEZ® Salsa Verde

Heat a large pot on medium heat. Cook up the bacon. You can either dice it before or after it’s cooked. Once you have the bacon nice and crisp, take it out of the pot, and place to the side. Cook your onion in the bacon fat (I know, awesome right?!) until lightly brown. Okay, not comes the fun part– add in the beans. One can with the liquid, and one can without and drained. Next, take a smasher (is that the right word?!) and smash about half of the beans. You still want some whole beans throughout, but you also want some refried beans consistency as well. Let cook until the beans come together and thicker. Add in some season salt to taste, and the HERDEZ® Salsa Verde. Voila– or OLE! Super flavorful, extra delicious!









If you want to go extra fancy, you could make some rice with lime and cilantro as well. I always make sure to have lots of fresh, creamy guacamole on hand, along with sour cream, lime slices, and fresh pico, and don’t forget the HERDEZ® Salsa Verde!
